Immune system and rosacea/acne

Post by Geneva »

Has anyone noticed the connection between a weak immune system and rosacea/acne ?
I had been completely clear for a couple weeks and started getting blemishes (small ones) a few days ago as I was coming down with the flu.

Also...I've tried starting the maintenance programm but not sure I could stay clear if I dont use the cream on a daily basis. Not sure what to do...keep treating on a daily basis or start the maintenance treatment and deal with more pimples coming out :?

Yup, no doubt about that. My skin often gets worse if I get sick. The same deal goes with lack of enough sleep - not good!

I was diagnosed in Jan07 has having rosacea. Never known any thing like it in my life as I have always had a good skin. However, rashes started appearing around my face just after suffering a bad bout of cold over Christmas for three weeks. I consoled myself with a lot of Port and sherry. I had to go to work in the freezing cold despite being ill, so my immune system hit rock bottom. as I recovered from my cold, cold sores appeared on my lips, a sure sign for me that I was really ill, (not just a man flu!).
After the cold sores began to heal, small rashes appeared along the nervous system on my face. I tried all sorts of creams etc. till my doctor diagnosed rosacea. Many people thought it might be Hives or derm.
I was given 4 x weeks of tetracycline and clindamycine lotion which burnt like hell. I got worse. The lotion was changed to eurthromycine, and that nearly killed me. I am now on steroids -phew!
I then discovered this site, and it made absolute sense to me. I totally sympathise with all who suffer with this problem, although mine has not reached that stage yet., but I think you are all very brave and give me hope for whats to come.
I have yet to order the creams as its all too new to me, but i did go and buy sulphur soap, and it works well - my huge red patches and plaques have reduced. I also need to find a microscope.
I am going back to my doctor today, and I hope he refers me to a dermatologist, as is the system in this country.
I strongly believe that my low immune system had something to do with it.

I ALWAYS get spots when I get a cold, without fail.

Saying that, I can't remember when I last had a cold (well, my diary says April 06), as my immune system is so much stronger since I revised my diet and ate for health - and of course, my acne/rosacea is many times better too as a result. In fact there is a nasty cold going round at the moment - everyone in my team at work has had it over the last 3 weeks... except me. I always used to be one of the first to get colds - how amazing is that?

Mikey - glad to hear that your acne/rosacea is under control, does it not go entirely? I too have been eating healthaly and been trying to control my diet, but still managed this.
I went to the docs on Thurs and guess what? my sores had all but disappeared, so i did not get a referral to a specialist. The very next day they all flared up again, red and extremely painful. so its back to him again on Monday.
He laughed at my suggestion that Demodex mites might be the problem! Oh well!
